About Weather Models

Weather models are mathematical simulations that predict atmospheric conditions. Each model has different strengths:

  • GFS - NOAA's global model, updated every 6 hours, good for 7-16 day forecasts
  • ECMWF - European model, generally most accurate for medium-range forecasts
  • NAM - North American Mesoscale, better regional detail for 3-day forecasts
  • HRRR - High-Resolution Rapid Refresh, best for next 18 hours in the US
  • ICON - German global model, excellent for European weather

Quick Tips

  • Click any location on the map to see detailed point forecast
  • Toggle between Map and Globe views for different perspectives
  • During hurricane season, switch to Wind layer to track tropical systems
